Crosswalk Design in neighbourhood "Trnovo"
Crosswalks
The project was commissioned by the Municipality of Ljubljana with the task of designing eight pedestrian crossings in the Trnovo neighborhood. This area is home to a school, a kindergarten, a church, and the Gradaščica river—landmarks that are central to the identity of the community.

Problem
Although Trnovo is a lively district, its pedestrian infrastructure lacked a unifying character. Each crossing existed as a purely functional element, without any visual or symbolic connection to the neighborhood’s cultural and social life. This made it difficult to create a sense of cohesion and belonging between the different key locations.

Challenge
The main challenge was to design crossings that were safe, recognizable, and visually engaging, while also reflecting the spirit of the local community. We needed to create a visual language simple enough to preserve clarity and safety, but expressive enough to represent the diversity of people living in Trnovo.

Solution
We chose the concept of skupnost (community) as the guiding theme. Using simple geometric forms—circle, triangle, and square—we developed illustrations that were easy to recognize as part of the crossings, while also carrying playful characterizations to make them more engaging. Each design connects the different crossings into a unified story, highlighting the variety of groups and individuals that form the fabric of Trnovo.
